A Spring Make Over with Belotero Filler

A Spring Make Over with Belotero Filler

“Beautiful young people are accidents of nature.  Beautiful old people are works of art” - Eleanor Roosevelt

When my 38 year old friend, Michelle, allowed me to refresh her look with the use of injectables, I knew that she would only want a very natural looking result that did not give her away.  Her biggest fear with facial filler is having large, puffy cheeks or over-done lips.  As purveyors and practitioners of the beauty industry, I feel it is our obligation to assist clients to achieve the best version of themselves.

My approach with injectables is to support facial structures by replacing volume loss, creating definition and contour.  Facial aging is caused largely by a redistribution and loss of fat, and resorption and loss of bone. The saying, “fat is beautiful” is true as a youthful look depends on having the right amount of facial fat in the right places.   Loss of fat around the forehead, temples, and cheeks, contribute to hollowing and the appearance of dark shadows on the face.  Subsequently, bone resorption around the eyes causes widening of the orbital bone and affects everything that is attached to it, including muscles and ligaments, resulting in eye bags or "tear troughs".

Changes in facial structures in the bone or fat distribution creates a downward motion to facial features.

Actress Nicole Kidman ages beautifully. In these photos, the obvious difference (besides hairstyle)  are largely due to changes in  facial fat distribution (less fat in the temples, forehead, and sides of face).

Replacing volume where fat loss has occurred around the eyes, temples, forehead, and sides of face, results in a face lift without surgery.  It refreshes the face without obvious signs that injections have taken place.

For Michelle's treatment I opted to use Belotero Balance, a hyaluronic acid dermal filler, to create volume around the facial areas that were affected by fat loss and bone changes through the years. Using a cannula (a fine, blunt tipped needle that is threaded safely through the tissue) I distributed a total of 2.0 cc of Belotero Balance into the temporal hollows, lateral forehead (above the brows), and into the lateral cheeks to the sides of her face. This resulted in a subtle filling and lifting of the facial contours, creating a natural, fresh look.  At this point, I couldn’t avoid doing just a little bit around the lips as a finishing touch.  For the lips, I used Belotero Intense, a great option  for creating natural volume and freshness.  Overall, a total of 3.0 cc of filler was used to give Michelle a subtle, natural, non-surgical face lift. She was very happy with her results as it gave her a refreshing make over without being obvious. As long as her boyfriend is not reading this, we are in the clear….!
